Working on a Small Environment

So I stared work on a new 3D model! It looks pretty plain now, but it won’t when I finish. It is based on a small Japanese restaurant I saw a photo of. I do pretty good environment work, but I have virtually none in my portfolio, so I wanted to add something. I sort of started texturing a little, but there is sill some modeling left to do. I am considering modeling some of the wood details into the building, but I would save on polys if I didn’t. Decisions, decisions. I also plan to do a few more graphic design pieces for my portfolio as well.

I have also been LARPing with a local realm. Having a ton of fun, although I got smacked in the nose pretty hard yesterday. It was fine, though. We don’t “cast lightning bolts” we just hit each other with foam weapons. It is a little less ridiculous that way, and more like a sport. I like to get outside more, since the weather is good. Although a little hot.

My cat has been waking me up too early.

Level 46

Just hit level 46 last night. I just made this character a couple weeks ago, so I am feeling pretty good about my progress as a Hunter. Brian and I are hoping to get our characters to 80 before Cataclysm. When that comes out, I want to make a Worgen priest. Brian is considering a Worgen druid. :3 Tragically, I am also excited for Final Fantasy 14. So many MMOs, so little time.

I did have a phone interview for a job in Downer’s Grove working on a Social Networking game. I am supposed to be hearing back soon and heading in for an in-person interview on Monday. I am pretty excited, and I just hope my car air conditioning is fixed by then. Ha ha. Brian is applying for a few more places in Chicago, although he is very interested in getting an English degree as well. I guess we’ll just see what happens.

For now, more 3D modeling, DDR, and World of Warcraft for me.

So, this is what I started work on yesterday. It;s a Zoanthrope from Warhammer 40k. This low-poly version took me all of about an hour, but I plan on taking this into Zbrush for some serious detail work. This should hopefully turn out to be a really cool piece for my reel.

If you have no idea what a Zoanthrope is, check out this link: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Zoanthrope

Updates coming soon as the Zbrushing begins. I will also upload some World of Warcraft screenshots.

Graduated!

I graduated! About two weeks ago, now.

Since then, I have been trying to take it easy. I went to the zoo, played with my chinchillas and cat, and caught up on some video games and sleep. I bought a few new games on Steam, and I have been playing World of Warcraft too. It has been nice. I might go visit Brian’s mom this weekend. That could be a nice trip. I have been applying for a couple jobs every day, but so far haven’t heard back. It has only been a week and a half, though.

Next week, I plan to resume work on my art. I have some good ideas for new 3D work and I am excited to start some new projects. I will be posting any new art I work on here, so stay tuned for updates!

Leaf Lion!

This is an idea I was working on for a lion with a mane made of leaves. I was kind of inspired by the Petalmane Baku Magic Card, except my lion has a head. I am not sure if I am going to do anything else with it. I am considering 3D. But I’m not sure. We’ll see.

New Blog is Now Online!

Hello! I had to scrap the old blog because it wouldn’t update properly, but now everything is back online and more functional than ever. (Note the sharing options, RSS feed, and Flickr and Twitter feeds on the right :3) I have also implemented several anti-spam measures, since my old blog was flooded with spam comments.

So, moving on to the topic of the blog: This will primarily be used as an art blog. I plan on forcing myself to do weekly updates with 3D work, sketches, animations, etc. I will also be posting updates on my personal and professional life. (i.e. What jobs I am applying for, projects I am working on, what video games I’m playing, where I went last weekend, and so on) Of course, the main focus will be the art updates, so I can receive feedback on the work I do, and keep track of my progress as an artist.

So, here it is. I’ll post something when I have it!
